Trend Alert: Moroccan inspired interior design

The Morrocan Design trend is as strong as ever and is shown throughout the pages of home design magazines and on interior design blogs everywhere.  Some attribute the recent surge in popularity of Moroccan style design to the restoration of many riads throughout older cities such as Marrakech.  A riad is a traditional Morrocan home or palace with a centrally located courtyard to protect against weather and focus on family.  Morrocan style décor builds roots from Moorish architecture including everything from royal arches to modern buildings.

Accessories throughout the Belfort Furniture showrooms have Moroccan inspiration

Morrocan interior design gives your home a warm, family oriented feeling that’s inviting for any guest.  A unique combination of traditional architectural detailing and modern design creates exquisite work.  The basis of Morrocan inspired design is about color, texture and fluid lines! Morrocan design can influence architecture, structure, textiles, furniture, accessories, lighting and rugs.

The Banner Pouf Ottoman from Sam Moore features a unique curved shape, tufting at the top, and nailhead trim detailing.  These simple yet impactful details and the over-stuffed design are a nod to Morroccan design and architecture.  We’ve paired this ottoman with our Bentley Sectional from BeModern and we love the look that’s photographed exactly as shown in our Belfort Furniture Showroom – building #4.

The traditional or modern home.

Delicately carved occasional tables from Bernhardt bring some romance into your room.  The Rectangular Console Table and Rectangular Cocktail Table from the Salon Collection are finished in an antique silver leaf color.  The Salon Collection’s Vertical Mirror with Arched Top and Inlaid Bone Covered Frame is reminiscent of the traditional keyhole arched doors in Morocco and the mosaic tile that is traditional to Moroccan design.

Upholstered beds have been trending and the most popular versions feature curved headboard designs that almost always seem to be Moroccan inspired.  These are a great way to bring a variety of texture into your bedroom, coordinating with many options when it comes to nightstands and dressers.  Among our favorites are the Madison Upholstered Bed by Bernhardt, the Transitional Upholstered Arch Headboard by Craftmaster, and the Ashbury Upholstered Bed by Kincaid.  Don’t forget, you can often choose from a variety of fabrics for upholstered beds!

Geometric designs featuring fluid lines and tile inspired shapes are also reminiscent of Moroccan inspired interior design.  Surya’s large assortment of rug designs offers many options to fit within this theme.

Feiss lighting available at Belfort Furniture

These lighting fixtures from the Kandira Collection and Medina Collection by Feiss also provide a unique Moroccan feel.  Pendants, chandeliers and even table lamps are always important factors when creating beautiful rooms but they can also help to bring through your inspiration or design trends.
