Feeling the blues...

(picture courtesy of  "visitingdc.com") Blue is everywhere. Even the White House has a blue room. There are so many shades of blue and it's such a beautiful, beloved color. It is cool, patriotic, nautical, soothing, serene, classic, sad, even happy. It represents wisdom, trust and loyalty. After the 911 attacks in the United States, blue became immediately popular as the country united and pulled together. When looking at the full color palette, blue has a very long history. It is the world’s most popular color with 40% of the population picking blue as their favorite color. But blue is not just one color, it is a myriad of shades from light to dark from green to gray. We've learned in our design projects and our showroom displays that the amount of light in a room can dramatically change the color and shade.

Blue makes the fall 2012 top color list for Pantone with the bright Olympian blue.

From Benjamin Moore, Wythe Blue has been chosen the color of the year 2012. This is one of our most favorite shades of blue and one we use often in our showroom displays. It has just enough green and gray to look like a classic aged teal. Here is a beautiful living room in Wythe Blue courtesy of Benjamin Moore.

Navy blue has been touted as the "new black" this year. As shown in the picture from JK Capri Hotel in Italy, courtesy of Patricia Gray's Interior Design Blog, navy with white trim is simply stunning on walls.

Our favorite Navy for walls is Benjamin Moore, Patriot Blue, it is simply brilliant with a bright white trim.

But blue is not just for walls. Take a look at this 2490 stationary navy sofa. It's a perfect anchor piece for your blue living room.

Or this teal blue is a fun contemporary look for your living room.

As an accent piece this patterned blue Nikko contemporary wing chair by Sam Moore would be perfect in a blue living room.

For a bedroom, one of our favorites is the Morning Blue Sky color from Benjamin Moore. It is light and airy and will still allow the furnishings to take center stage. This blue bedroom with the Belfort Signature Louis Philippe King Platform Bed is on display in our showroom. The blue teal walls are the perfect setting for such a gorgeous bedroom set.

Did you know that most of the walls in our showroom displays are marked with name of the paint color? Our designers do their best to make it easy to re-create our showroom look when you get home.

And if you need some help selecting your perfect blue paint, furniture and accessories, our experienced and professional design team is ready to help you select the perfect blues for your room. When working with a client our designers always order extra paint samples to put up in the room, so that you can see how the paint color will interact with your light (natural and artificial) as well as any fabrics and carpeting.
